It is powered by a 1-cylinder Briggs & Stratton petrol engine with 5 hp. The engine drives an air pump and the hydraulic pump, which uses the oil pressure to drive a motor on the rear bogie.
The locomotive was manufactured by Mardyke Miniature Railways Ltd from England.

The orignal

The model is based on the German V-29, a narrow gauge locomotive.
